HamiltonThe Disney Company has announced that Hamilton, the 11-time-Tony Award®-, GRAMMY Award®-, Olivier Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical will be coming to Disney+ on July 3.

Hamilton is a leap forward in live capture, transporting its audience into the world of the Broadway show, a musical that tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. The show’s music draws from hip hop, R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes.

The show has been described as being about “America then, as told by America now”. Although Hamilton was based on historical events and people, Miranda did use some dramatic license in retelling the story.

While this has been announced as coming to Disney+ on 3 July it is not currently listed on Disney+ in New Zealand, so this date may only apply to some countries that have Disney+.

Star Wars: The Last JediStar Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerFor all the Star Wars fans out there, on 4 May The Rise of Skywalker will be released on Disney Plus which means that with The Last Jedi having been released on Monday, the complete Skywalker Saga will be available on Disney+.

For those of you wanting to do a Star Wars movie marathon, that is 1,238.7 minutes of viewing (20 hours 38 minutes), or 22 hours, 52 minutes if you include Rogue One in the marathon.

Of course, that doesn’t include all the additional content like LEGO Star Wars, and various TV shows such as The Clone Wars etc.

X-Men: Dark PhoenixAccording to an email sent out by Disney Australia, and Whatsondisneyplus.com, X-Men: Dark Phoenix should have arrived on Disney Plus in New Zealand on Friday 24 April, instead, it still has not arrived and as a result there have been a number of queries regarding this.

Research has shown that Neon TV currently has the streaming rights to X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and interaction with the help team at Disney Plus could not provide any details on either why an email was sent out by Disney Australia saying it would be available in New Zealand, or when it would be available on Disney Plus in New Zealand.

So it seems that for the moment at least the movie will not be coming to DisneyPlus in New Zealand (at least until the current licensing agreement with Sky TV who own Neon expires).

It seems that DisneyPlus have ceased (at least for the moment) releasing all their new arrivals on Friday evenings. This has resulted in the movies being spread out over the week, instead of all arriving on the evening of 3 April.

The new movie arrivals for this week are:
10 things I hate about you
Alice in Wonderland
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Waking Sleeping Beauty
In addition to these a New Zealand release date of 24 April is now showing for Disney Pixar’s Onward.

In addition to the above movies a new Episode S07E07 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released this week.

Today it has also been announced by Disney that Artemis Fowl will be released directly to Disney+, although the release date for the movie has not yet been advised.

So new arrivals on Disney+ in New Zealand arrived at 9 pm tonight – 6 March.
It seems that this may be the normal release time for New Zealand, which means that when Disney shows a release date, it really means 9 pm on that day, not earlier in the day when it could be watched without having to stay up late.
